Google ha variado su araña web ('crawler') de forma que las páginas que hayan detenido su actividad para protestar contra la ley SOPA no vean afectado su posicionamiento en las búsquedas de Google. Uno de los analistas web de Google ha asegurado que la variación de la araña web solo ha tenido efecto durante el día de las protestas.

   Algunas de las principales páginas web de Estados Unidos se han unido para mostrar su rechazo a la aprobación de la ley SOPA en Estados Unidos. Páginas como Wikipedia, Wired o Wordpress han interrumpido su actividad habitual para mostrar mensajes de protesta. Esta ley persigue legalizar el cierre de páginas web que permitan la distribución de contenidos considerados como ilegales.  

   La paralización de las actividades de estas páginas, aunque solo sea un día, en condiciones normales condicionaría sus resultados de búsqueda en Google. La posición en la que aparecerían después de un día de inactividad podría verse alterada respecto a su posición habitual, con lo que su protesta, más allá de suponer un trastorno en cuanto a contenidos y nivel organizativo, tendría repercusión en sus resultados en los siguientes días.

   Google, consciente de este problema y concienciada con la protesta, ha decidido poner remedio a la cuestión. Uno de los analistas web que trabaja en Google, Pierre Far, ha sido el encargado de confirmar la iniciativa de la compañía. Según un mensaje en su cuenta de Google+, Pierre Far ha asegurado que Google, durante el día de protestas por SOPA, ha variado su araña web para que los paros no afecten a los resultados de las webs implicadas en los próximos días.

   "Hola webmasters. Nos damos cuenta de que muchos de vosotros estáis preocupados por los efectos que puede tener el parón. Como precaución, el equipo encargado de la araña web de Google ha configurado GoogleBot para realizar un barrido a mucho más bajo de lo habitual, para que así los resultados de Google se vean menos afectados con las protestas", ha explicado.

   De esta forma, y solo durante el día de las protestas, el sistema de Google se ha adaptado para perjudicar lo menos posible a las webs que han participado en las protestas. Lo cierto es que es una situación extraordinaria y variar los resultados de búsqueda por una protesta de este tipo alteraría los resultados habituales sin tener origen en un cambio de uso consentido por los usuarios. Esta medida vuelve a demostrar el apoyo de la compañía en la lucha contra SOPA.
